There’s good beginner zones at the foot of both Lincoln Peak and Mt Ellen, with the former providing more in the way of steeper terrain higher up.

There are some very good long blues, steep blacks and gladed tree-skiing for powder days. All main runs on both mountains are covered by a comprehensive snowmaking system and a slick lift system means you’ll be riding fast lifts most of the time, including on the traverse across between the mountains via the world’s longest chairlift, the Slide Brook Express.

There is little in the way of accommodation at Mt Ellen, but at the main Sugarbush base there’s a good range of on-slope, ski in ski out accommodation, making this a very family-friendly destination. Getting here is easy from Burlington regional airport, or alternatively you can make the long drive from Boston. Make sure that when you visit, you spend a day just up the road at Mad River Glen, one of the USA’s best old school ski resorts – a ride on its legendary single chair is an absolute must.

Bitterly cold temperatures across the Left Coast through the beginning of this forecast period, before this freeze will ease as the week reaches its conclusion and the weekend begins. Flurries of snow will also fall on most areas including around 10cm in the Tetons, by far the highest totals in the region. Moving forward, temperatures remain mild with more sun bursting through in many places.

On the ice Coast, extremely mild temperatures take a long walk off a short pier on Wednesday night, with the freezing line dropping from a steady 3,000m to sea level in an instant. This will drop temperatures on Thursday but they will steadily recover towards the end of the week and into the weekend. A few flurries of snow will mov in over weekend evenings, helping freshen up slopes after a period of mild weather.
