Brixen im Thale Ski Resort
Located in the heart of the vast SkiWelt, Brixen im Thale is a fantastic, family-friendly base from which to explore the vast network of beginner-intermediate slopes.
Home to 89 lifts and almost 250km of groomed slopes, the Ski Welt is one of the world's biggest linked ski areas, which in recent years has seen impressive levels of investment, both in swish new lifts and snow machines. This means that the queue and snow reliability problems of old are mostly now in the past, but do be prepared to ski on artificial snow early in the season, or during warm spells.
Brixen is ideally located to get straight into the heart of the SkiWelt, with a gondola and a chair whisking your right to Zinsberg, from which you can reach all corners of the ski area. Head the other way and the local slopes above Westendorf are a gondola ride away – these are often quieter than the main slopes of the area so are a good bet on a busy weekend day.
The village itself is rather spread out, but it well connected to the lifts via an efficient ski bus system and there's a great range of family-friendly accommodation. The town is generally quiet, but if you're after après ski, the lively town of Westendorf is a short bus or taxi ride away.
