New Zealand was in the midst of some unseasonable conditions, with heavy snowfall across the majority of the country. The snowline dropped as low as 500m across resorts around Queenstown in the south, while in the Northern Island, snow fell in Whakapapa town itself. Cardrona (85/190cm) reported … while Coronet Peak (40/100cm) The Remarkables (105/142cm), and Treble Cone (145/163cm) saw 30-35cm a piece.
A number of resorts were forced to either limit lift operations or close completely, including Mt Lyford (70/195cm) and Mount Dobson (80/102cm) due to high wind and reduced visibility. Expect heavy cloud and wind even over those resorts that are fully operational.
Current forecasts show this storm to ease off through Tuesday, leaving some fantastic riding conditions across the country. Far more mild snowfall may return towards the latter part of this week, though expect sunny skies for the most part.
