Located on the flank of Mount Hood, Timberline is home to one of the longest ski seasons in the world

with the Palmer Snowfield regularly staying open right through the summer. During the winter however, there’s a good range of blues and greens, plus a couple of blacks, that drop into the treeline and offer up a decent variety of terrain. Most of the lifts are fast, allowing you to clock up lots of vertical, there’s lots of night skiing on offer and the resort is also renowned for its terrain parks. Nearby Mount Hood Meadows is also well worth the visit.

Accommodation-wise, staying at Government Camp or up at Timberline Lodge (which is a great place to base yourself) are your best options, but beware that options are fairly limited. Perhaps base yourself in Portland (around an hour away) and make the trip up each day, whilst soaking up the city’s culture, coffee shops and buzzing food scene.
