It is highly likely that you’ll catch the resort basking in sunshine! Above this a vast network of steeper reds and blacks can be found, including the mighty Sarenne – Europe’s longest – which plunges down almost 2000 vertical metres from the summit at Pic Blanc.
Alpe d’Huez is somewhat spread out, with the centre extending over quite a large area – but a recently constructed gondola linking it up has helped with access. Another hub can be found at Les Bergers, where there are some large apartment blocks and a secondary centre with its own shops, bars and restaurants.
Alternatively you can base yourself in one of the smaller villages linked to the main area – including Vaujany, Oz en Oisans, Villard Reculas and Auris en Oisans. Immediately above the village lies one of the best learning areas in France.
Gentle greens, served by a fleet of fast chairs and chondolas, as well as numerous drags and rolling carpets make this an excellent area for beginners. Intermediates will enjoy the long, cruisey blues down from Marmottes and the Alpette area above Vaujany is often quieter and holds on to better snow.
For more advanced skiers and boarders, there is a bit of a reliance on the top of the mountain being open. But when it is there are some great long reds for an on piste blast and of course the lengthy Sarenne is an epic groomed run. If there has been fresh snow head to the Tunnel run (it should hopefully have filled in the biggest of the bumps) or the Combe Charbonnière.
There are two resort centres in Alpe d’Huez. The main village is the bustling hub and is home to much of the accommodation, some seriously lively bars and a number of excellent restaurants specialising in local French food. Les Bergers is a good alternative, with its own centre and a great selection of great value, self catered accommodation.
If you’re looking for a quieter stay or to stay in a chalet, then Vaujany is perhaps a better option, as is the small village of Villard_Reculas.
Off the slopes, the resort prides itself on offering a multitude of winter activities. The outdoor ice rink is possible, as are the cross country and winter walking trails. There is also a huge outdoor swimming pool that is open throughout the winter.

Our Snow Overviews are updated bi-weekly between the start of December and early May every season, providing summaries of snowfall, weather, avalanche risk and other noteworthy meteorological events to help you prepare for your skiing holiday. Check back next winter to stay up-to-date on the latest weather happenings in resort.
Your Ski Club Reps are in resort for one reason only; to help you discover better skiing. They are your personal resort gurus, with years of experience skiing here and around the world, who will bring you and your fellow Members together to conquer the mountain! Stay up to date with everything in resort, find the best spots for an après beer, and ski to your heart’s content.
Our Reps will be in resort between 4 January and 28 March 2025, skiing six days a week – Reps’ day off/changeover day is Saturday in this resort. We are making changes to how registration to ski with the Club in resort works. Thank you for your patience whilst we undertake these updates to the registration process.
We are still early in the process of assigning Reps for the 2024/25 winter season. Thank you for your patience whilst we make these arrangements.
I started skiing in my home country of Scotland when I was at school, now I spend most of the winter in the alps. As well as repping for the SCGB, I lead for the DHO and am a BASI and IASI instructor. The most important things for me on a leading day are safety, smiles and miles. I always enjoy driving to the resorts from Scotland as a grand touring road trip. The rest of my year is involved in clay target shooting, for the last 17 years I've been capped for Scotland in the Home International.
My first skiing trip was to St Anton at tender age of 22, which was a long time ago now. I caught the bug from the very beginning and I've not missed a season ever since. I just LOVE the mountains and have never had a bad day; just some better than others. This is my tenth season leading/repping for the club, which has enabled to ski some great resorts where I’ve had some truly memorable moments and met some fantastic people along the journey. My favourite resort is Revelstoke in British Columbia with its legendary powder, small town vibe and it’s where my youngest daughter lived for six years!
We are still early in the process of assigning Reps for the 2024/25 winter season. Thank you for your patience whilst we make these arrangements.
I have been repping since 2006 and have enjoyed the amazing community that is the Ski Club. It is a privilege to meet and ski with members old and new.
When not repping I love travelling and this year I am crewing on a Clipper in the Caribbean, travelling from Budapest to Venice by train through the Swiss Alps, and hiking in the Japanese Alps in autumn.
I look forward to skiing with you this season.
