Nestled in a valley just to the northwest of Schladming, the family-friendly resort of Filzmoos may only have 8 lifts ...
but there are some great slopes for beginner through to intermediate skiers. More advanced skiers will want to head to the bigger resorts in the Ski Amade region, but the Michaela Kirchgasser FIS-approved race course (named after the resort’s most famous racer) is a challenge for anyone.
Away from the slopes, the high-altitude Rossbrand cross-country trail is very popular and snowsure, with spectacular views over the Dachstein Glacier and surrounding mountains. Accommodation is fairly limited, but there are some traditional, family-run, Austrian-style hotels to choose from and access from Salzburg Airport is very quick and easy.

Austria sees some good and much-needed snowfall over the course of this weekend and into the new week. Temperatures remain cold throughout, as the freezing line hovers around 1,500m across the region, occassionally spiking to just above 2,000m. A few flurries of snowfall over the weekend will be matched with a few threats of sunshine, before the taps turn on into the new week.
Eastern and Southeastern areas will see around a foot of snowfall over Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, focused on Saturday when most of this will fall. Western areas will see much needed consistent snowfall, with just over a foot expected down in consistent waves from Sunday until Tuesday, with more snowfall expected later in the week.
