Meribel

I am a keen skier and passed my Leaders (now Reps) course in 2018 and I have mainly skied in the European Alps although have ventured as far as Whistler and Colorado! I ski when ever I can and am happy at any level, beginner to advanced, on piste, off piste. I have also done some ski touring and am keen to develop this further. I also like the mountains in the summer and have summitted several 4000m+ peaks including Mont Blanc and Grand Paradiso. I am looking forward to this season and what it may bring!

I just love being outdoors  especially in winter, in the mountains, in the snow, on skis (a good start for a rep!). I recently discovered skiing off the beaten track with SCGB and have become hooked. I became a rep as I love the camaraderie of skiing with SCGB members, finding the lesser skied/ hidden/ locals' pistes, lunching and having fun with other members on piste off, piste and apres piste. I look forward to skiing with you this season or next!

Like the line in a Bob Dylan song, "My Heart's in the Highlands". I started walking in the Scottish Highlands from a young age before taking up skiing in my mid 30s and becoming instantly hooked. I have skied with family and friends in many parts of Europe with a few detours to the Rockies. Now, as a retired GP, I can indulge my passion for the hills, whether on skis, skins or foot. When not up high, I can be found refereeing football on the Bristol Downs, playing bridge or tending my allotment, all to the soundtrack of the 2016 Nobel Laureate.

I completed the repping course in December 2022 having been a ski club member for around 10 years, mainly skiing in Val d'isere where I've skied with some really great people and made some good friends. I started skiing in 1986/7 when I did a season in Val d'isere working in Dicks T Bar having never skied before I turned up looking for a job followed by a season in Meribel for a tour company. I've been lucky to have skied in many resorts around Europe including Val d'isere, 3 valleys, Zermatt and La Grave being some of my favourites and are looking forward to skiing with ski club members in some new resorts. In the early 2000s me and my wife Kathryn worked for Silver Ski for 2 seasons running a chalet without ending in divorce. To keep fit I enjoy cycling both road and mountain and playing golf and walking with my cocker spaniel in and around the North Yorkshire dales and moors close to where I live.

I started skiing at 4, being passionate about it ever since!  I did 11 seasons when younger, starting from a Chamonix mountain restaurant, then repping and guiding, leading to 6 seasons as an instructor with European and New Zealand ski schools.  I’ve returned to skiing work after retiring as an occupational therapist.  My hobbies are hiking with husband and friends, travelling, fitness classes, Zumba, tennis and sailing.  I love nothing more than being in the mountains, and sharing fun skiing (plus eating/drinking!) experiences with like-minded people, discovering the best snow and runs together.  I look forward to meeting and skiing with you in resort!

My life has been pretty chaotic but skiing has been the one consistent thing. My mother took us to Alpbach in The Tyrol to learn to ski. Since then I have skied all over Europe, North America and Australia. The winter is pretty much back to back skiing as a Leader for Ski Club (since 2008), with The Army protocol team, and family and friends. In the other months I reluctantly garden and train the dogs and head for the hills or French sunshine. My grown up children now ski faster and better than me but I still have more stamina than them. I took up touring in 2014, and love the peace and challenge. Snow and fitness allowing I hope to do more.
