As a cheaper, family-friendly alternative to the French Alps, the French Pyrenees are a great bet and Peyragudes is one of the region's best ski resorts.
The 60km of slopes straddle a central ridgeline, with the steepest terrain on the western slopes. That being said, the lower slopes on both sides are well suited to beginners, where snow reliability issues of old have been solved somewhat by recent investment in snowmaking infrastructure.
The resort actually has two small bases, located at the foot of the lifts on either side of the ridge. Both are small and quiet, but conveniently located slopeside, allowing for quick access to the lifts each day. The Skyvall Gondola (built in 2019/20) added a third option to stay down in the valley in the larger village of Loudenville, which is now connected directly to the slopes by the new lift. Here there is a wider range of accommodation and a renowned spa – perfect for unwinding after a long day on the slopes.
