Forecast today: Generally clear
The four lifts climb from the village at 1550m to an altitude of 2622m, meaning most of the slopes are snowsure and a long vertical drop can be gained from top to bottom. For beginners there are some good nursery slopes in the village and progression on to longer blues is good – three of the four lifts have summit to base blues. Intermediates will also enjoy these long, winding slopes and the network of reds, which can be joined together to make over 1000m of vertical.
Despite its size, Sainte Foy has some fantastic opportunities for advanced and expert skiers and boarders. In particular, the “Natur” routes off the L’Aiguille chairlift are a popular place to head after fresh snowfall. By clipping on a pair of touring skins, your options suddenly become even bigger – book on to a Ski Club Freshtracks holiday to really make the most of the fantastic local terrain. And don’t forget, the rest of the Tarentaise is within easy reach of Sainte Foy, with ski pass discounts available at other resorts if you hold a six day or longer local pass.
Sainte Foy is a complete resort in miniature, but it has everything you could need including a decent selection of bars and restaurants. The resort’s buildings are all built in the traditional Savoyard style of wood and stone making this an attractive, traditional resort – certainly in comparison to Tignes or Les Arcs.
As such a compact, quiet resort, this makes it an attractive option for families looking to escape the crowds and sprawl of the nearby resorts. This does unfortunately mean that the après scene is rather quiet, but there are some good local options for a quiet drink at the end of the ski day.
The transfer to Sain te Foy is shorter than for the bigger resorts up the valley. Chambéry is the closest airport at around one and a half hours away, whilst Geneva sits approximately two and a half hours away. Several companies will offer shared transfers, especially from Geneva.
A great option is to travel by train, catching the Eurostar and connecting TGV to the town of Bourg St Maurice in the valley before grabbing a quick bus transfer up to the resort.

Updated 17/02
Strong snowfall continues into this week after last week’s incredible numbers – with the avalanche risk remaining very high as a result, with Level 4 (High) and Level 5 (Very High) dominating across the French Alps. Around 25cm of snowfall is coming down on Tuesday with flurries continuing into Wednesday, with cloud and obscured conditions in play. This will reach most elevations as the freezing line remains close to 1,000m throughout, taking a long walk off a short pier overnight as it hits sea level.
Another large snowfall is due on Thursday, continuing to bring excellent snow but maintaining this avalanche cycle – this new snow is sitting on a persistent weak layer dating from December that has been causing issues all winter, and remains a severe risk now.
Temperatures remain cold, with the freezing line holding fast at around 1,500m. This means that around 70cm of snowfall will hit upper slopes, with decent totals of 20cm reaching lower slopes, too.
Cloud clears – as does the snow – over Friday and into Saturday, meaning those of you still skiing may well experience amazing conditions now that this new loading of snow has had a chance to sinter and bind to the layers below; although with a persistent weak layer in play this will remain dangerous for some time.
Conditions take a marked turn towards spring, with sun during the day and cold temperatures overnight, creating a distinct freeze-thaw cycle.
