Thredbo has the longest runs in Australia and also Australia's highest lift point at over 2000m.
There are 70km of pistes in the area which are mainly geared towards intermediates. The Basin offers a few options for beginners. For progression, head to the top of the Karels lift where some gentle blues can be accessed. For advanced skiers there are only 3km of black runs. The blacks are not steep but on higher lifts there are off-piste variants. The Funnel Web, an ungroomed piece of terrain with a steep middle section and moguls, provides the biggest challenge. There are also three good terrain parks and a ‘monster bag’ jump. As the resort can at times struggle to retain snow on the lower slopes, Thredbo has invested in the largest snowmaking network in the Southern Hemisphere.
Thredbo is made up of mostly smart apartments, chalets and lodges. There are lots of restaurants and sophisticated bars around a pedestrian shopping mall.
Thredbo is located a six hour drive from both Sydney and Melbourne but only a 2 and a half hour drive from Canberra.
