Every run can be reached by the resort’s two main lifts, a fast six- pack and a slower quad, making getting around very easy. Advanced skiers will love the steeps in Saddle Basin and if conditions allow, hike to the Summit or ski into Motatapu Basin – both of which offer up some of New Zealand’s best and steepest in-bounds off piste. If you’re a beginner don’t let this put you off however, there’s an excellent learning zone at the foot of the slopes and the Easy Rider green is there to snake its way from summit to base if you’re looking to progress further.

There’s little more on the hill than the base lodge (but this is very well equipped for all your needs during the day) and a café at the summit, meaning you’ll need to stay down in the valley. Wanaka is the obvious choice to stay in, not only for its beautiful lakeside setting, but also ease of access (the drive only takes 25 minutes), range of accommodation and number of lively bars and restaurants in which to unwind in after a long day on the slopes. It also has a lot to offer away from the snow, making it a great spot for an all-round action sports adventure holiday.

Flying to Queenstown via either Christchurch or Auckland gives you the quickest access to the mountains around Wanaka. We’d recommend having a car however, as this will give you an option to visit a number of different resorts nearby (such as Cardrona, Coronet Peak and The Remarkables).
