An overnight covering of snow, which amounted to 5-20cm in places, was very welcome in the run up to Tuesday. This refreshed pistes that had suffered over the weekend from unseasonably warm weather and half term crowds.
Some good skiing was therefore on offer, particularly at the likes of Flaine, Avoriaz and across the Tarentaise – the Espace Killy was fully open and reporting fresh tracks thanks to 10cm of overnight powder. Lower resorts could have done with a bit more fresh snow, but conditions still improved and some of the icy or bare spots have been covered up.
Light snow is expected on Wednesday as a weak weather front crosses the French Alps. Totals of between 5-10cm are expected before the skies clear to leave a sunny end to the week. Temperatures look set to rise day by day into the weekend, with the freezing level sitting at around 3000m by Saturday.
