ClosePal/Arinsal – Vallnord
The pretty, tree-lined slopes of Pal and the open, east-facing slopes at Arinsal form a compact 63km of linked slopes that area ideal for families and those starting out on snow.

Although there are steep slopes at Arcalis
(linked by lift and a regular bus to form the Vallnord ski area), Pal/Arinsal is very much a ski area geared towards beginner and intermediate skiers and snowboarders. The ski schools here have a very good reputation, as well as long history of teaching English visitors. Add in low prices fuelled by Andorra’s tax-free status and there is good reason why this is such a popular family ski destination.
You get access to the whole area with a season pass or a ‘Ski the North’ pass – which allows you four days in Pal-Arinsal and two days in Ordino-Arcalis.

Pal/Arinsal - Vallnord Resort
Although some accommodation is available up at Pal, most of the best options are down in the valley at La Messana. This is well-linked to the skiing via a gondola however, making this perhaps the most attractive option.
In town there is a great range of food options, as well as some lively bars along the main street that runs through its heart – note that this can get a little busy in the morning and also at the end of the ski day. The only downside to staying here is that you’ll have to download the gondola at the end of the ski day.

Cold conditions continue across the Pyrenees this week, with the freezing line staying below 2,000m throughout. Things otherwise remain dry and broadly sunny, with a few pockets of cloud along the way.
A few flurries of snow can be expected as the week concludes, bringing a freshener to many slopes. Otherwise, things remain cool and stable as the new week begins.
