With access to 210km of Grandvalira slopes, Pas de la Casa is an excellent base from which to explore Andorra’s premier ski area. Much of the skiing suits intermediates, but there are also some great beginner facilities and a few challenges for experts. Lots of the resort’s visitors come here to party and for good reason – the après ski here is Andorra’s best and certainly rivals many of the major alpine party destinations.
Immediately above the resort lies a very good beginner area at Abelettes, accessed via a gondola from the village. Some longer blues are then on offer for progression, but these can get busy at weekends and getting across towards the rest of the Grandvalira area usually requires taking red runs. But these same runs are ideal for intermediates, who will love the wide open pistes and the sense of travel across the 210km network of slopes.
Advanced and expert challenges are slightly limited, but arguably the entire area’s best black runs are located just above Pas de la Casa, served by the Costa Rodona and Antenes chairlifts. In fresh snow there is some decent off piste, but if you’re in Andorra, the steep terrain in the Vallnord ski area above Arcalis is better. One good recent addition for advanced skiers and boarders is a new lift linking the Peretol area and its advanced level Sunset freestyle park into the main Grandvalira area. Previously only accessed by car or bus, skiers and boarders can now ski to get some serious air.
Pas is known as Andorra’s wildest party resort – a well deserved reputation as there are a huge number of après ski bars and nightclubs to choose from considering its size. It’s a more affordable resort than Soldeu and is thus better suited for groups and younger visitors rather than families. The tax-free shopping extends to great prices on food and drink, as well as a range of affordable accommodation options.
The only downside is that the resort is not the most attractive, with purpose-built apartment blocks dominating the skyline. However, there are alternative accommodation options including neighbouring Grau Roig, which provides doorstop access to the Grandvalira slopes and is appreciably quieter.
Toulouse airport to the north and Barcelona airport to the south are the nearest to Andorra, both of which lie around three hours away. Hiring a car is the best option.

Mild conditions will dominate across the Pyrenees to open this forecasting period, with double-digit temperatures expected at midmountain level in the midday sun. A few bits of precipitation will move in, falling as rain in most places.
Things will change through this week, as unsettled weather forces the freezing line to take a long walk off a short pier, plummeting to 1,000m before close of play on Saturday. Rain will then therefore turn to snow overnight into Sunday, bringing with it a useful 10cm for the region.
